B&O Unlocked: B&O C-2943 Caboose | B&O Railroad Museum

The little red caboose has long been synonymous with the American Railroad, so prepare to step into that iconic symbol.

The B&O No. C-2943 is an example of an I-7A caboose, which is known for its steel body and protruding bay windows. Cabooses served a plethora of purposes on the railroad, including mobile workspaces, watchtowers, manual braking stations, and sleeping quarters.

This caboose served from 1961 to 1995 and serves as a testament to the long life and purpose of train cabooses.

Tours:

Tours will be available between 10 AM – 4 PM.

Please note: This tour requires participants to climb stairs and walk on uneven pathways. A virtual tour will be available on-site via QR code. Docent Tour Guides stationed near the car can answer any additional questions about the history and physical description of the rail car. Small children must be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times.
