This August, take a journey back in time as you walk through the illustrious B&O No. 7701 “Dreamland Sleeper!”

Join us on August 14th, 17th, and 18th for an exclusive peek into the history of this exceptional sleeper car.

From a time when rail passenger services faced fierce competition from airlines and automobiles the BUDD Slumbercoaches were innovative creations designed to counter this threat. Among these, the No. 7701 “Dreamland Sleeper” stands out as one of only two operated by the B&O.

It offered passengers the luxury of small private rooms at an affordable price—a true gem in the world of overnight travel. Operating between Baltimore (later Washington D.C.) and Chicago, it first served the coach-only Columbian before becoming a part of the Capital Limited, which featured coaches alongside first-class Pullman cars.

Tours:

Tours will be available between 10 AM – 4 PM.

Please note: This tour requires participants to climb stairs and walk on uneven pathways. A virtual tour will be available on-site via QR code. Docent Tour Guides stationed near the car can answer any additional questions about the history and physical description of the rail car. Small children must be accompanied by an adult guardian at all times.
