B&O Railroad Museum to Honor First Responders With Annual First Responders Showcase

BALTIMORE, MD – August 25, 2023 – In honor of those who serve as emergency personnel, the B&O Railroad Museum is hosting its annual First Responders Showcase on September 9 from 10 AM – 4 PM.

The showcase is an all-day event with the goal of educating and learning about the work that first responders do. Attendees will have the opportunity to take an 11:30 AM or 1:30 PM train ride to the Museum’s restoration shop for a demonstration of a controlled collision between a train and an automobile to see the extrication process used to help save lives when such incidents occur.

Fire and Police Departments will also be on-site in the Museum’s backyard, displaying equipment and safety gear and answering any questions from those in attendance. There will also be demonstrations from a bomb squad operating robot as well as a police drone operation.

Operation Lifesaver, a non-profit organization that teaches the importance of rail safety, will be present with giveaways and educational materials for children. An Honor Guard presentation and National Anthem and Remembrance Ceremony will also be at 12:30 PM.

First Responders receive free admission and a train ride to see the controlled collision with their ID.

The roundhouse was my favorite part, because it gives a true feel for what goes on in a roundhouse—the cars are stationary, but seeing the actual tracks is eye-opening.
