Rev. Alvin C. Hathaway Sr. to Lead MLK Celebration of Freedom Weekend at B&O Railroad Museum

Lecture on Thurgood Marshall’s Legacy and the New Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center Set for January 19

Baltimore, MD – The Reverend Alvin C. Hathaway Sr., a prominent Baltimore leader, will headline the B&O Railroad Museum’s MLK Celebration of Freedom weekend with a special lecture on Sunday, January 19, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Rev. Hathaway will explore the life of civil rights icon Thurgood Marshall, focusing on his early career at the B&O Railroad, his groundbreaking achievements as a lawyer and judge, and the new Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center in West Baltimore.

Thurgood Marshall worked on the B&O during the summers of his college, and both his father and uncle were lifelong B&O employees.

“We are thrilled to have Rev. Hathaway join us for this significant event,” said Kris Hoellen, Executive Director of the B&O Railroad Museum. “This is a unique opportunity for the community to learn about Thurgood Marshall’s legacy, and to celebrate his connection to the B&O Railroad and to Baltimore. We’re excited to highlight the newly opened Thurgood Marshall Amenity Center as part of the discussion.”

The lecture is the centerpiece of the Museum’s Celebration of Freedom weekend, which also includes family-friendly activities, a Museum tour, and educational programming. In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision for accessibility and community engagement, the Museum will offer free admission starting at 1 p.m. on January 19, ensuring that the lecture is open to all.

This was such an awesome experience! The trains inside were phenomenal and all very well kept. But we went ahead and did the train ride also and that was just icing on the cake! This is a great experience for kids, teens, and adults like myself.
