  • All Aboard for Train Ride Season!
    April through December and weekends in January

    Train ride season returns! Come take a round trip ride along the first commercial mile of railroad track, recognized as the birthplace of American railroading. With paid admission train ride tickets are $1.00 for children ages 2-12 and $2.00 for adults and seniors(60+). B&O Members are free! Train rides are offered Wednesday through Sunday, April through December and weekends in January. Train ride times are Wednesday through Friday at 11:30am, Saturday at 11am, 1pm, & 3pm, and Sunday at 12:30pm & 2:30pm. Train rides are subject to change or cancellation and are not guaranteed with your visit.

     
  • Thomas Viaduct Art Exhibit
    Friday, July 30
    10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    Join us and the Friends of Patapsco Valley & Heritage Greenway for the opening of an art exhibit featuring historic and contemporary artworks of the historic railroad bridge, the Thomas Viaduct. This exhibit showcases local artists and will be on exhibit at the museum through early 2011.

     
  • Boy & Girl Scout Railroading Month at the B&O Railroad Museums
    During the month of September, boy or girl scouts who wear their scout uniforms to the B&O will receive $1.00 off regular admission. Take advantage of additional savings and reserve your scout group by contacting group sales at 410-752-2462 x 205.

     
  • Train Ride to Mount Clare Museum House
    Saturday, September 4, 2010
    11:00 a.m.

    With paid admission to the B&O Railroad Museum, you may purchase a train ride ticket to visit Mount Clare Museum House. Learn the story that connects these two great sites. Tickets for this approximate 2 hour experience are $7.00 for adults and $6.00 for children (2-12). Tickets for B&O members are $4.00 for B&O members and $3.00 for their children

  • Restoration Facility Tour: the New, the Old, and the Restored!
    Sunday, September 12, 2010
    1:00 p.m.

    Take the train ride for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum's state of the art restoration facility constructed in 2005 to restore and maintain the museum's locomotive and rolling stock collection. This guided tour is an up-close and personal look at the shop including the machinery used in the restoration process and a peek at some of the "Iron Horses" currently being maintained and restored. Duration of the tour is approximately one hour with an additional 15 minutes for train ride to and from the restoration shop. Space is limited to 25 people for age 13 and up. Ticket cost for the train ride and tour is $10.00 per person with paid admission to the museum.

     
  • KidsFEST Weekend
    Saturday, September 18 & Sunday, September 19, 2010
    10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    Discover the adventure and magic of American railroading! Special activities, train rides and children entertainment throughout the weekend. Live performances by the Milkshake from Noon to 1:00 p.m. There's even a kid's "All Aboard" calling contest. A train load of fun for the whole family!

  • Free Fall Baltimore 2010
    Wednesday, October 13, 2010
    10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

    In conjunction with Free Fall Baltimore 2010, the B&O Railroad Museum will provide FREE ADMISSION on Wednesday, October 13 & 20. The museum will present "Iron Horses in the Shadow of War." This will include a series of educational programs focusing on the B&O Railroad between 1830-1860. In addition to these programs, the museum will provide guest speakers on each day who will explore Maryland and Baltimore on the eve of the American Civil War.

     
  • Free Fall Baltimore 2010
    Iron Horses in the Shadow of War: Baltimore on the Eve of the Civil War
    Wednesday, October 13
    1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

    Join author and historian Adele Air as she provides a snap shot of Baltimore on the eve of the Civil War. Mrs. Air will discuss local culture and customs and touch upon important local figures and the average Baltimorean. This lecture series is in conjunction with Free Fall Baltimore 2010. Admission and the lecture is FREE for all visitors.

     
  • Railfest Steam Days Weekend
    Saturday, October 16 (10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.)
    Sunday, October 17 (11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.)

    Programs and demonstrations highlight steam power and celebrate the Museum's historic steam engine collection, which includes icons such as the William Mason, Tom Thumb, and Lafayette. Take the steam train ride behind the St. Elizabeth #4 and watch a steam demonstration by the William Mason #25. Join us as we let off a lot of STEAM!!

     
  • Free Fall Baltimore 2010
    Iron Horses in the Shadow of War: Antebellum Maryland
    Wednesday, October 20, 2010
    1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

    Join noted author, historian, and guest curator Daniel Carroll Toomey as he discusses life in Maryland before the Civil War. This lecture is in conjunction with Free Fall Baltimore 2010. Admission and lecture are FREE for all visitors.

  • Toddler Time Halloween Celebration & Costume Parade

    10:30 a.m.

    Join us for the year's last Toddler Time, featuring a classic railroad story and Halloween celebration. Children will parade in costume around the Museum campus to collect special treats. Kiddie train ride too! All included with paid admission. Recommended for ages 2-5.

     
  • B&O Halloween Bash
    Saturday, October 30, 2010
    12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

    Come celebrate Halloween with us with a costume party beneath the pavilion. Join us for a spooktacular afternoon of fun that includes Halloween games, crafts, music, and refreshments. Party cost is $5.00 per child (2-12) with paid admission. All aboard for a monster of a good time! Recommended for ages 4-12.

    Then board the train and take a round trip ride with Santa while enjoying the magical holiday display of toy and model trains at the museum's annual event Holiday Festival of Trains. Space for Breakfast with Santa is limited. Advanced reservations are required for the following weekend breakfast dates: December 4 & 5, 11 & 12, & 18 & 19.     Salute the military and veterans at the B&O! Join us for a special living history presentation by members of the 4th Infantry Division Military Police Unit on our WWII Troop Sleeper. Vintage military vehicles will be on display too.
